Day 4 Monday 13 October 2014

Mycenae was the leading state of the Mycenaean civilization, which spanned from 1600 BC to 1100 BC.  Mycenae itself was the leading state against the Trojans during the Trojan war.  It, like Troy, was discovered and excavated by Heinrich Schliemann in the 19th century.  All the gold at the entry to the National Archeological Museum comes from Mycenae, described by Homer in The Iliad, as “rich in gold”.
